Luxury brands of watches are busy launching ladies’ watch collections in the luxury, sporty and designer segments. Luxury does not always connote size and complexity; even simple elegant ones with standout styles and designs looking as if ‘made for the wrist’ make stunning statements. Women were not perceived earlier as brand-conscious marketers of wrist watches which is perhaps why most of the luxury, designer and sporty segments of watches focused on men to give the brands an iconic status. From that inimitable spy James Bond 007 to the newer generations of sports stars, luxury and designer watches have run through legends of dynamic figures and personalities, all men.
In a marked move from this, over the past few years, each season of watch releases for men have been accompanied by releases of women’s watches, anticipated eagerly worldwide. The top brands that have captured the market in the past couple of seasons are:
Breguet Heritage Phase de Lune – Combines Breguet values with contemporary, dynamic looks, altogether a stunner.
Bulgari – The Bulgari, though marketed as a men’s watch, may appeal in great measure to women; the latest model contains the brand’s very first in-house automatic complex movement.
Cartier – The Cartier Crash’s fist version released in 1967; later versions have only enhanced its exclusivity. This latest one from Cartier is cool and funky as well. Bound to go well with any dazzling cocktail party outfit.
Chopard – The Happy Sport celebrated its 20th anniversary a couple of years ago; the latest Happy Sport Medium Automatic is instantly appealing with its automatic mechanical movement. No other brands has been able to cash in on Chopard’s cult like appeal in watches.
Jaeger-LeCoultre – The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface looks as if it’s designed for a woman’s wrist. With reversible dials, it not only changes ‘appearance’ but also provides a second time-zone indicator, perfect for any globetrotter.
Omega – An iconic name in watches, it’s often wondered why they didn’t design and brand for women; existing men’s designs were just reconfigured as women’s watches earlier. The Omega Ladymatic is extremely good looking and reliable as well, equipped with an automatic caliber.
Piaget – The coolness comes with the name, the Piaget Altiplano Date is an ultra-thin luxury watch that is as distinguished as the lady herself. This ‘neck-turner’ tops the industry with its thinnest automatic calibers.
